About Us

Heartland Builders, a custom home builder was formed in 1997.  We started building one “spec. home” at a time. Not long after, one person and then another started to ask us to build their home. Now, we are an on-your-lot custom home builder serving the Grand Rapids and West Michigan area.

We joined our local Home Builders Association in 1999. We built our first Energy Star Certified home in 2000; our first “barrier free” home in 2002; our first LEED certified home in 2006. Since then, we have filled West Michigan with many great homes.

We are proud of what we do. Building homes is our passion and our profession. We are not perfect, but we try. Relax though, we do not ask our customers to be perfect either. We like to work together to build great homes. It is a team effort.

We believe that you should select your builder based on philosophy. Our tagline is “We build Smart Homes for Thoughtful People”. Further, we promote our belief that our customers should “Build with Confidence”. We follow a defined process that helps us deliver on our philosophy.

We believe that you should support the industry and community that supports you.  Our, Rich Kogelschatz was President of the HBA of Grand Rapids in 2009 and 2010.  In 2014, Rich served as President of the Home Builders Association for the State of Michigan.  He is also a National Director for the National Association of Home Builders.

Heartland Builders supports our community through donations and charitable work at our church’s, local non-profit organizations and schools. We care.

Thank you for your interest and consideration. We hope you like what you see and that Heartland Builders is the right custom home builder in Michigan for you. Please call us or email us today.
