1997 was an eventful year. Steve Jobs returned to Apple (and we know the rest of that story). The first Harry Potter book was published. Dolly the Sheep was the first successfully cloned animal. Titanic and Jurassic Park dominated the theaters. Princess Diana died in a traffic accident in France. The Spice Girls and Garth Brooks dominated the airwaves. A 21-year-old Tiger Woods became the youngest golfer ever to win the Masters.
But most importantly, Heartland Builders’ first home was built!
Fast forward to 2017 and we’re celebrating 20 years here at Heartland Builders! A lot has changed in 20 years. Building codes have changed. Materials have changed. How people shop for new homes has changed (and we LOVE that they can do it from our design studio now!).
Our kids have grown up and headed to college and grad school. Heartland Builders has grown to a group of 7. That first house in 1997 was followed by another, and another, and another, and we’ve built over 100 homes since then!
What hasn’t changed, though, is more important than what has changed.
Quality. From the first house we built 20 years ago to the homes we’re building right now, we are committed to using quality products and quality people at each step along the way. We’ll never cut corners to save a dime. We’ll never compromise the quality of our products or people because it’s easier than doing the job right. We carefully select materials that we know will best serve our clients, and our process includes multiple walk-through reviews to ensure that our standards are met at each step along the way.
Our home warranty guarantees our work even after our clients move in. We’ve done it this way for 20 years and we’ll always do it this way because it’s the right way to do it.
People. Clients, vendors, suppliers, subtractors, employees — the number of individuals we’ve met and worked with over the years is too many to count! We feel so fortunate, as part of our work, to have had the pleasure of experiencing relationships with many amazing people. Did you know that West Michigan has a tremendously talented workforce of skilled tradesmen and contractors? We do, because we work closely with them each week and see the passion they have for their work and the pride they take in a job done with excellence.
We work with vendors whose enthusiasm for their products and services is contagious. Our employees are talented and hardworking and always, always put our clients’ needs at the top of their list of priorities.
They’re also just a lot of fun to work with (as evidenced by our “Mannequin Challenge” video — just a day in the life at Heartland Builders).
And our clients are just plain awesome. Being trusted to take their ideas and thoughts and chicken-scratched drawings and producing a beautiful home they’ll make memories in for years to come never ceases to delight us. We know that building a new home is one of the biggest investments people make, and we’re so honored to have been entrusted with this by all of our clients these 20 years.
Community. West Michigan is a fantastic place to live and do business. We’re proud to be part of this community! We’re also proud that through our work we’ve been part of building a better community for everyone in West Michigan these last 20 years. During the fall 2016 Parade of Homes tour, we were honored to partner with several organizations we recognize and support for their work building a better community for us all to live in. We look forward to additional Building a Better Community initiatives in honor of our 20th anniversary this year!
We’re going to be celebrating our 20th birthday all year long. Because we can! We’re going to be sharing some of the pictures and stories and people that have been part of our 20-year journey. We’re celebrating our 20th anniversary by sharing a Building a Better Community update on the 20th of each month all year long, and we’ll have opportunities for you to join us in these ventures as well. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to join the party!
We love building homes. We’re so thankful that we’ve been able to do this for the last 20 years. We can’t wait to see what the next 20 years bring!
