Featured Team Member: Meet Josh!

When you trust Heartland Builders to build your new home, we promise to make your journey as stress-free and FUN as possible. From start to finish, you can be sure that every Heartland team member you work with has your best interest at heart, and goes above and beyond to make your experience memorable.

This week, we’re excited to introduce you to a new team member, but someone who fits right into Heartland’s company culture — say hello to Josh Middleton, our Warranty Manager and Assistant Project Manager! As your first point of contact whenever you have a question about your finished home, and as the person who secures permits to start building your home, Josh has a role in every part of the building process. We can’t wait for you to get to know him!

What’s your relationship with Heartland Builders? What do you love most about working here so far?

As the new Warranty Manager and Assistant Project Manager, I get to have a part in almost every aspect of the building process. My primary focus is managing warranties, as well as permits and utilities setup during pre-construction.

In the short time I’ve been here, I’d have to say my favorite part of working at Heartland (besides the awesome team, of course) is seeing the light in the eyes of our homeowners on move-in day. All the stress, decisions, and time passes right on by and they get to see the home of their dreams in real life, and it’s finally theirs!

Where did you grow up? Tell us about your family!

I was born and raised in Lowell, MI. The youngest of five kids, I went to Alto Elementary, Lowell Middle and Lowell High, graduating in ’03. My father is a semi-retired salesman and my mother runs her own home cleaning business. My siblings all live locally, though scattered around Kent County.

I now live in Sparta, MI with my wife, Katie, my two boys, Julian (9) and Quinn (7), and two kitties, Alfred and Trixie.

How do you spend your free time? What do you do to relax?

I’m a bit of a dabbler, so I tend to experiment and bounce around between woodworking, working on my own home, doodling things to work on in my home, cooking, gardening, and video games. But sometimes I just relax with a book and a kitty on my lap!

What do you wish other people knew about Heartland Builders?

A lot of companies love to talk about how important their clients are to them, but Heartland truly lives it. Everyone here is so passionate about taking care of our clients, putting them and their needs above everything, and doing anything within our power or control to get them the home of their dreams. Nobody and no company is perfect, but there’s something to be said for how important it is to be flexible and ever-evolving your processes to make them work better for your clients. I’ve seen that kind of evolution even in just my short tenure here at Heartland.

What would someone be surprised to know about you?

After studying acting in college, I strongly considered going to grad school to study theatrical fight choreography, with a concentration in sword choreography. In other words, I nearly pursued a career as a Sword-master for film and stage.

Tell us about someone you admire.

Honestly, I have the utmost respect and admiration for anyone who manages to reshape their life for the better. I’ve had the privilege of knowing a number of people who saw the direction their life was heading, didn’t like it, and reshaped it to the life they wanted. Those are the folks that really inspire me to be better every day.

What inspires you and your work?

Having worked in restaurants for the past 15 years or so, my passion really is for not just customer service, but hospitality. The goal isn’t just to take care of my clients, but to direct their experience, anticipate needs, and go above and beyond to give them the best home building experience possible.
